Mountain Breeze November/December 2004
The Mountain
Breeze
November/December 2004
From the Desk of . . . . .
This comes to you as our Holiday Edition of the Mountainview
Breeze combining the months of November and December. We trust
the holiday season is going well for the entire Mountainview
family.
We first want to express our sincere appreciation to all our
volunteers who gave so freely of their time during November. On
November 16th our staff took thirty-four (34) of our residents
for a fun, filled day of Christmas shopping at the Eastside
Wal-Mart. We could not even begin to think about such a trip
without having the assistance and support of our volunteer
community. We want to thank our friends from Cedar Springs
Baptist and Morningside Baptist for all of their help. Also, we
want to thank the management and staff of the Wal-Mart for their
assistance, but more over, for their patience as we pretty much
take over the store while there.
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving, we held our annual Community
Thanksgiving Service, this year led by Rev. Benjamin Snoody of
Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. To lead the singing Rev. Snoody
brought his ministry of music, Mr. William Burgess, and vocalist
Mrs. Eloise Moss. Both the message and singing were inspiring
and up lifting and was appreciated by all who attended.
As you are aware, our staff was able to locate flu vaccine for
our residents and the shots were given on Monday, November 15th.
Even with that preventative measure, we would still ask that if
you are experiencing any cold or flu symptoms to please not
visit the facility until they are resolved. We thank you in
advance for your cooperation.
Again this year, we want to remind you that the Medical Day Care
area on the Lawson Dining Room is available for our families to
gather for Christmas. The room is available by reservation only
in the evening and on the weekends. Please contact Sue Kemp or
Anna Brown in Social Services to make your reservations.
Included in this issue are details for the Christmas party on
Christmas Eve. Please make plans to join us during the Holidays
and visit with us often.

It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This
Christmas music is already filling the air by means of radio.
Thanksgiving hasn't even been observed but that's okay, maybe
the two can coincide. I will leave that for others to decide.
The residents of Mountainview, thanks to the help of staff
members and a large number of community volunteers, have already
been on a shopping spree. It was interesting to watch the buses
pull in and to see the packages lined along the sidewalk. What a
great day they had shopping, visiting with friends, people
watching, and simply on an outing. It doesn't get any better
than this!
We had our annual Thanksgiving service on Wednesday, November
24. Dr. Ben Snoddy was our speaker, everyone was truly blessed
at this service. We all look forward to this annual event. There
is always that renewed amazement as residents, staff, families
and friends recount their blessings, and a part of that blessing
is our community. It doesn't get any better than this!
We are looking forward to the decorations, sounds, anticipation,
and all that the Advent and Christmas season holds in store for
us. The community has been in touch and found various ways to be
involved. Christmas at Mountainview is not a story told, but a
story in which we participate. It would be interesting to
assemble our community of people together and hear their
numerous journeys through Christmas. The story and journey will
continue through the upcoming season. It doesn't get any better
than this!
A conference on end of life issues was held in Greenville last
week. The room would not hole all the participants and the
interaction was lively and people stayed till the end of the
day. Why? What is the intrigue? This writer sat in the midst of
the meeting and thought, "all things are moving, moving from
life to death (that is what our society thinks), or moving from
death to life." Society feels that one is either alive
(biologically) or dead (no longer physically breathing and
alive). Thanksgiving and Christmas reveals that life is more
than an individual. It is a covenant relation with a community
and one's God. Life is living and sharing with others. When this
occurs, it doesn't get better than this!
Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!

NEWS FROM ACTIVITIES
Since you last heard from activities, The Tippers, hosted the
annual Halloween Party for our Elders and provided a barrel of
fun for them. Our Elders really got a kick out of the various
costumes that they wore for the party, especially the Sumo
Wrestler. Sarah Gibbs really enjoyed them she gave them a pinch
when they got near. We've also celebrated the 50's with an Elvis
impersonator (Thanks Ron Lawson!!). He was really good and all
of us enjoyed him. He presented some of the ladies with roses
and some with a scarf. Have you ever seen Gayle Blanton swoon?
It was a first for many of us. We would like to thank McDonalds
for providing us with french fry bags and wrappers for our chili
cheeseburgers during our 50's style lunch. Our
shopping trip on November 16 went well and a special thank you
goes out to the Eastside Walmart management and staff for
stepping up to the plate when we needed assistance with the
Elders.
Reverend Doctor Benjamin Snoddy of Mt. Moriah Church lead our
Thanksgiving Service this year and it was enjoyed by all who
attended. Thanks to Rev. Snoddy for his willingness to conduct
this service for us and for his blessings on this home.
Sympathy is extended to each of our staff and families who have
lost loved ones. Also, we extend sympathy to one of our
volunteers, Janice O'Sullivan, in the loss of her father.
We are busy at work preparing for our upcoming Christmas
Celebration to be held on Friday, December 24, 2004. We are
eagerly anticipating the added festivities and joy that comes
with this wonderful season. Please remember to check our
calendars and upcoming event board so you won't miss anything.
We appreciate you all and all you do for our Elders!
Until next time………

CHRISTMAS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
PLEASE JOIN US ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2004
AS WE CONTINUE OUR TRADITION!
As in the past few years we will be celebrating Christmas
in the neighborhoods again this year.
Our neighborhoods have brought a new and exciting
uniqueness of their own to Mountainview. In keeping with the
principles of Eden, each neighborhood will have their Christmas
at HOME.
Please deliver any gifts that you purchase for your loved one to
the
Activities Department by Friday, December 17th. All packages
need to
be wrapped and the resident's name printed on a large gift tag.
Please label all
clothing with resident's name before wrapping the gift. Please
let us know
if you will be unable to purchase gifts for your loved one as we
would like for each of
our residents to have gifts under the tree in their
neighborhood.
you may contact Social Services if there will be a problem.
This year, each neighborhood will be planning their own
celebration. The
festivities will begin at 10:00 am in the respective
neighborhoods and will be
followed by refreshments and a visit from Santa in the Lionel
Lawson Dining
Room beginning at 10:45 am.
We look forward to you joining us as we have an
Eden Christmas in the Neighborhoods.

THE POWER OF ATTITUDE
Our lives are not determined by what happens to us, but how we
react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the
attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain
reaction of positive thoughts, events and outcomes. It is a
catalyst……..a spark that creates extraordinary results.

SOUTHERN COMFORT WEAR
Mountainview will be hosting a shopping day for friends,
families and staff of our residents on December 3, 2004 at 1:30
pm in the main dining room. This would be a great opportunity
for families to purchase Christmas gifts for your loved one.
Southern Comfort Wear has adaptable clothing and regular
clothing for men and women. They also will put the person's name
in the clothing. Please join us for an afternoon of shopping or
if you wish our staff will be happy to help select something for
your resident and have it wrapped and put under the Christmas
tree for that resident. Just call the social service department,
Sue or Anna, and they will be glad to help.
