From the desk of ………….

With this August edition, we resume our monthly publication of The Mountain Breeze after a brief hiatus this summer. Much has happened the last couple of months and we will attempt to bring our readers up to date with this issue.

First, we want to say how happy and thankful we all are that Sue Kemp, our lead Social Worker, is progressing and improving each week following surgery to repair a detached retina in her right eye. As you can imagine this has been quite an ordeal for her and her family. We are all so proud of her for battling back so quickly from such serious surgery.

Within the next few weeks we will be starting installation of a complete fire sprinkler system for our facility. This major capital improvement will insure that our facility provides the safest possible living environment for our residents and safest work place for our staff. More over, this addition will position our facility to remain in compliance with current and future Life Safety Code requirements. There will be considerable interruption to our normal routines and we will attempt to hold those to the minimum. We can assure you that our residents, visitors, and staff safety will be our first priority during the installation.

Spartanburg County is providing funding for the sprinkler system to us. The County Administrator as well as County Council has been so supportive of us in this project. We are so proud of the positive relationship that we have enjoyed with the County for the past fifty years. They are indeed valuable members of the Mountainview family.

Enjoy the remainder of the summer and please visit with us often.

ACTIVITIES

Here we are in the month of August. We’ve been so busy the time seemed to slip past unnoticed. Since you last heard from us the Elders had fresh corn, cucumbers, tomatoes and cantalope from the garden and sweet purple grapes from the grape arbor. The garden really yielded a good bounty and the Elders enjoyed helping prepare it for cooking. The Elders also enjoyed the July cookout. Thanks to the dietary department for the tasty hotdogs and trimmings.

Our Activities Department in conjunction with Spartanburg Police Dept. launched the National Night Out on Thursday, July 29, 2004. We had a good turn out for this with the city and county police attending along with Croft Fire Dept., also Windsor Forest and Cedar Acres Neighborhood Associations were represented. The entertainment was provided by the "Tiger River Band" they are a blue grass band and the residents and visitors really enjoyed them. Thanks to Nancy Acker for her help in putting this together. We hope everyone will participate in "National Night Out" , August 3, 2004 at Cleveland Park.

Our August activity calendars are posted in each neighborhood so please check them for daily activities and up coming events. We welcome our new residents and employees. We are glad you are here.

Until Next Time,

Gloria Crocker, Activities
