From the Desk of . . . . . First and foremost this month, we want to wish our dear friend and colleague, Sue Kemp, a speedy recovery from her recent knee surgery. As you all know, Sue is not only our lead Social Worker, she is also responsible for putting together the Mountain Breeze. She will probably not be back at her desk full time until the end of the month. Until then Sue, we love you and miss you so much. As we begin the New Year, we are truly excited about our plans for 2005. Not only are we continuing our efforts to further enhance the environment inside the facility, we are beginning to work on two large projects for the grounds. First, with the help of Fredericka Wilson, one of our Board members, we are going to completely redo the patio between Eastside Village and Northern Estates where the fishpond is located. We’re talking a major makeover! We plan to remove most all of the existing plant material and replace it with a completely new design which will be not only more appealing to the eye but will be much safer and resident friendly. Trust me, there’s not much appeal to a thirty-year- old holly bush! Also, Mr. Johnny Quinn, Assistant Food Service Director, is leading a project to construct a large waterfall to the left of the hallway leading to Westside Gardens. We can’t wait for it to begin to take shape and we are grateful to Johnny for having the vision to begin such a grand project. Finally, this month we will be redecorating the Beauty Shop with the help of volunteers from Spartanburg Methodist College. We have had this project on our list but have just not gotten around to the work. That is one of the truly great things about having the offer of helping hands through volunteers; it has caused us to move that project to the top of our list. As always, visit with us often and thank you for your continuing help and support. Wilson K. Dillard, Administrator Top

A Bouquet of Thanks to Justine Chenette and her gracious co-workers for the wonderful surprise birthday party. The refreshment table was of royalty with 24 decorated cupcakes made by Justine before she came to work (most likely at the crack of dawn). Geneva Suber and I shared the lime-light as we are both New Years’ babies. It was a wonderful day and one to be long remembered. Margot Newell, Resident Westside Gardens Top
