From the Desk of . . . . . As many of families and residents are aware, we had our annual Certification Survey by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control at the end of March. The survey team was quite concerned with our safety and security system for our residents. During the three days of the survey the team observed many occasions when we were not following our own policies and procedures. We were cited for failing to provide the SAFEST of environments for our residents and for not using all the elements available to us to ensure safety. All of the safety issues related to the residents being able to exit the facility by means of the three emergency exits on each of our neighborhoods. Thus we have to enforce our policies regarding those doors. No longer will we allow visitors to enter or exit those doors for convenience. If any visitor has special needs and requires accommodation, we would ask that you call the facility and our staff will provide reasonable assistance for your visit in a way that will not breach our safety policies. I thank you in advance for your cooperation. At this months Board meeting we will be reviewing the plans for the refurbishing of the patio area between Northern Estates and Eastside Village where the fishpond is located. One of our Board members, Mrs. Fredericka Wilson, is heading this project for us. She has worked timelessly seeking professional assistance and financial assistance from her many loyal friends in the community. I mention this effort to let you known that financial assistance is still needed, and if you would like to contribute to this beautification project, please call our Social Services staff and they will be glad to assist you. We all want to thank Mrs. Wilson for kindness and dedication to the mission of Mountainview. We hope you will make a special effort to attend the Eden Celebration. I promise it will be a lot of fun. As always we thank you for your continuing support and please visit with us often Wilson K. Dillard, Administrator Top
THANK YOU Those who bring sunshine to others cannot keep it from themselves. Sir James Barrie I would be remiss if I did not write about an upcoming event scheduled for this Thursday, April 28th. By the time you hold this newsletter in hand, the event will be history. Yet, the past and future impact of what we do at this event is crucial to who we are and what we do here at Mountainview. There are so many terms to use for those who are being honored. We call the event "Volunteer Appreciation." They are volunteers who give of themselves. These individuals volunteer their time and energy to touch the lives of those who live in the community of Mountainview. The donation of the volunteers’ time and energy provides a whole host of activities. They provide Sunday School (Bible study), worship services, shopping trips, the delivery of mail and packages, bingo, birthday parties, bird watching, gold fish ponds, gardens, one-on-one visits, a prom, etc. These are the back drop of friendship and companionship. There is something special about volunteers. They are usually community minded, healthy, balanced people. They have learned that one touch makes the whole world kin. They also realize that volunteering changes people. It changes both sides—because in giving we receive and in receiving we give. Life is for the living and it is worth sharing. Thank you volunteers! NEWS FROM ACTIVITIES Springtime is here and the beautiful weather has turned our attention to springtime activities. Planting the garden is on the minds of some of our Elders. Some of our Elders are eagerly anticipating the prom that The Tippers of Spartanburg High School do each year. Others are just glad to be able to get outside to enjoy the sunshine, the birds singing and the gentle breezes. We all are looking forward to our annual Eden Celebration on May 14th. Hope all of you plan to attend. It’s time again to honor our volunteers who are so faithful to help us in so many ways. We really depend on their help especially when we go on a outing. Our Volunteer Appreciation Banquet will be held on April 28th at 6:00 pm in the Lionel Lawson Dining Room. We invite you to stop by and visit our Activity Department any time. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact our Activity Department at 582-4175, Ext. 24. Until next time, God Bless, Gloria Crocker, Activities Top
