From the Desk of . . . . .

We are delighted to bring you this holiday edition of the Mountainview Breeze! This fall we managed to get off schedule in our publications. The late summer and fall have become our busiest time of the year. Our plan is to return to our monthly publication and distribution as we begin the New Year.

Since our last issue, we are happy to let you know that we reached our fund raising objective for the patio beautification project for the area between Eastside Village and Northern Estates. The old plant material has been removed and the raised beds have been prepared for planting. Additional work should begin soon. We want to again thank all those who have helped with this project especially Mrs. Fredericka Wilson who has directed the entire project.

With the approaching Christmas season, we want to call to your attention the activity schedule that is included with this edition. We welcome all during this special time of the year.

We have many exciting tasks and projects scheduled for next year. We are trusting our funding sources will come together so we can revise our goals of improving the quality of our living environment that we offer our residents as well as the working environment for our gifted and talented staff. Keep us in your thoughts as we move through this process.

Wishing you the happiest of Holidays and we look forward to seeing you at Mountainview.

HOLIDAY GREETINGS !!

The residents and staff of Mountainview send our best wishes for a joyous holiday season. We have the trees decorated and the welcome mat out! Christmas is plural, now that I think about it. Everything about Christmas is plural and not singular. The Christmas season is about family and friends. There is no such thing as a private Christmas. Therefore, we look forward to our time together during the next few weeks.

Now when you come and share Christmas with us, don’t feel like you "should". Should usually does not create a remembrance. Every person and home will look a little deeper in the mailbox this year. Soldiers will. Residents will. The arrival of the postman or a friendly face will quicken the heart and broaden the smile. We are not forgotten, especially at Christmas. Memories will be created during the next few weeks.

A should does not maintain and sustain a relationship. A should is singular. Christmas is plural, a drawing. It draws us to a place, to people, and to hope.

Merry Christmas!

NEWS FROM ACTIVITIES

The old adage, "time flies when you are having fun", still holds true. Here in the activity department we have been so busy doing so many things the time seems to have slipped up on us and Christmas is just around the corner. It seems that it was only a couple weeks ago that the staff and Elders were decorating their neighborhoods for Halloween, hoping to win the Designers’ Choice contest for best decorations. (Westside Gardens was our winner ~ Way to Go!) Our Halloween costume winners were: Anna Brown, Social Services, for best character; Jessie Lyles, CNA / Restorative, for most unique; and Bonnie Blackwell, Medical Records, for most original. As usual, the Tippers did an outstanding job planning and hosting our annual Halloween party for our Elders. Our Elders also enjoyed our Christmas shopping trip to Walmart on November 1. We really appreciate all of the folks who had a part in making our trip a pleasurable one. Special thanks to SRMC Transport, Morningside and Cedar Springs Baptist Churches, our Mountainview staff and the Walmart associates. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Our thanks to all who participated in the Legends 2 talent show that was held on November 15th. Everyone was great and helped to make the show a great success. We love you all!

We are now beginning to decorate our neighborhoods for Christmas and we gladly welcome any help in decorating. Our Christmas party, which is held in each neighborhood, will be held on Friday, December 23, 2005 beginning at 10:00 am. We look forward to seeing you there!

Until Next Time. . . . . . . . .

God Bless,

Gloria Crocker, Activities

They also will put the persons name in the clothing. Please join us for an afternoon of shopping or if you wish our staff will be happy to help select something for your resident and have it wrapped and put under the Christmas tree for that resident. Just call the Social Service department, Sue or Anna, and they will be glad to help.

CHRISTMAS IN THE NEIGHBORHOODS

PLEASE JOIN US ON DECEMBER 23, 2005

AS WE CONTINUE OUR TRADITION!!!

The tradition of having Christmas in the neighborhoods continues this year. Our neighborhoods have brought a new and exciting uniqueness of their own to Mountainview. In keeping with the principles of Eden the neighborhoods will have their Sixth Christmas at HOME.

Please deliver any gifts that you purchase for your loved one to the Activities Department by Monday, December 19th. All packages need to be wrapped and the residents name printed on a large gift tag. Please label all clothing with residents name before wrapping the gift. Please let us know if you will be unable to purchase gifts for your loved one as we would like for each of our residents to have gifts under the tree in their neighborhood. You may contact Social Services if there will be a problem.

This year, each neighborhood will be planning their own celebration. The festivities will begin at 10:00 am in the respective neighborhoods and will be followed by refreshments and a visit from Santa in the Lionel Lawson Dining Room beginning at 10:45 am.

We look forward to you joining us as we have an Eden Christmas in the Neighborhoods. Mark your calendars

NEWS ABOUT NEW PRESCRIPTION DRUG PLANS

As we all know, the new drug prescription plans are being sent out for seniors to sign up. Our pharmacy and Social Service department are working together to ensure that our residents are signed up for the appropriate plan. We have begun receiving letters now from the different drug companies stating that our residents have been signed up for a specific plan through Medicare. If Mountainview receives your loved one’s Social Security check each month, then we will receive the letters and / or information related to the upcoming changes. However, some of you will receive these letters instead of them coming to the nursing home. If you do receive a letter for one of the residents about the Medicare drug plans, we ask that you bring in any information that you receive. You can either bring the information to Social Services or to the nurse on your loved one’s neighborhood. It is important for us to receive those letters so our pharmacy will be able to continue to provide quick service for medications for your loved one. Any questions please contact Sue Kemp or Anna Brown.

And the angel said unto them, "Be not afraid; for behold; I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be to all people; for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2: 10-12
