From the Desk of . . . . . Dear Family: The past few weeks have been quite eventful as well as much busier than we had anticipated for this time of year. Much of this had to do with our annual Certification Survey conducted by the staff of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, which took place during the first week in February some two months early. The survey went well with only minor citations that have been corrected. Matter of fact, we have already had our follow-up visit to insure our compliance and that took place on March 13th. We want to acknowledge the efforts of our staff during this process, especially the leadership of our Director of Nurses, Mrs. Carol Hodge. With that major event behind us, we can now return our efforts to the work associated with two major projects that we will be beginning soon. First, are the improvements to the patio area located between Eastside Village and Northern Estates. Mrs. Fredericka Wilson of our Board continues to direct this project. Much of the plant material has been purchased and is on the grounds and planting should begin soon weather permitting. Our second project is the remodeling of the nursing work areas and new floor coverings for each of our neighborhoods. Final discussions have been completed with the State and we are finalizing our plans for the work. Our staff under the direction of Mrs. Sue Kemp has worked very hard on this project, and we are all going to love the outcome. We will keep you posted. We were pleased to have hosted our Lt. Governor, the Honorable Andre Bauer on February 17, 2006, for a news conference to announce the placement of the first Volunteer Ombudsman in the state here at Mountainview. We are pleased to be working with Mrs. Janette Gianopoulas as our volunteer. If you have not met her, I'm sure you will soon. Welcome Janette to the Mountainview family! Visit us often Wilson K. NATIONAL NURSING HOME WEEK National Nursing Home week will be held starting May 14th and end on May 20th. This week will be filled with a lot of fun activities throughout the week. We invite our families and friends to join us that week for some of the activities that will be going on. Watch the bulletin boards and the newsletter for days and times of the activities. The theme of the week is "Legends in Our Times". Hope you will join us. THREE SNAKE RULE James Barksdale is CEO of Netscape. One of his maxims that endeared him to his employees was formulated at a management retreat soon after he took charge. It’s known as his three snake rule. THE FIRST RULE; If you see a snake, kill a snake. Don’t set up a snake committee. Don’t set up a snake user group. Don’t write snake memos. Kill it. THE SECOND RULE: Don’t play with dead snakes. (Don’t revisit decisions.) THE THIRD RULE: All opportunities start out looking like snakes. Top

SPRING HAPPENINGS We are looking forward to getting our gardens underway soon. Johnnie Quinn has been busy planting flowers and tilling the soil for planting more flowers and vegetables. The area between Eastside Village and Northern Estates is beginning to take on a new look. The plants are here and are going to be planted. Mrs. Fredericka Wilson has been really working hard to get this project organized and done. We thank her for all the hard work she has done to get this garden area done for our residents. We hope to begin the renovations to the neighborhoods by the end of March. We are just awaiting final approval from DHEC. Things are really starting to happen around here so come and visit and see all the changes we are making. We are really excited about all of the changes and hope that you will be too. TEN REASONS WHY I NEVER WASH REV. SIDNEY LAING OF DUBLIN, IRELAND 1.I was made to wash as a child. 2. People who wash are hypocrites. They reckon they are cleaner than other people. 3. There are so many different kinds of soap, I could never decide which one was right. 4 I used to wash, but it got boring so I stopped. 5. I still wash on special occasions, like Easter and Christmas. 6. None of my friends wash. 7. I’m still young. When I’m older and have got a bit dirtier I might start washing. 8. I really don’t have time. 9. The bathroom is never warm enough. 10. People who make soap are only after your money. POEM When a bit of sunshine hits ye, after passing of a cloud, When a fit of laughter gits e, an’yer spine is feelin’ proud, Don’t fergit to up and fling it At a soul that’s feelin’ blue, For the minute that ye sling it, It’s a boomerang to you! ------- John Wallace Crawford Top
